I became a hospice nurse because I believe some of the most meaningful moments in nursing happen when we simply have the privilege of being present. Hospice care allows me to care for patients not only medically, but as whole people—to listen to their stories, honor their wishes, ease their discomfort, and help them maintain dignity and quality of life.
I was drawn to hospice because of the opportunity to support both patients and their families during one of life’s most difficult transitions. I have learned that sometimes the greatest gift we can give is comfort, compassion, a listening ear, and reassurance that no one has to walk this journey alone.
Being a hospice nurse has taught me to slow down, appreciate the little moments, and truly meet people where they are. It is an honor to be invited into such personal and sacred moments, and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to make a difference when it matters most.
